Abstract

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to understand the meanings of grandmother¡¯s experiences who are taking care of her grandchild.
Methods:Three grandmothers participated in the study. Data collection took place between October, 2010 and June, 2011 via unstructured in-depth interviews. Data collection and analysis were conducted simultaneously and The collective data were analyzed using a narrative inquiry methodology. All interviews were audio taped and transcribed verbatim.
Results:The meanings of grandmother¡¯s experiences who are taking care of her grandchild included seven central meanings: ¡°don¡¯t entrust others with her own kinship,¡± ¡°sacrifice herself for her son (daughter),¡± ¡°be beyond one¢¥s capacity what she takes care of grandchild on son¡¯s (daughter¡¯s) behalf,¡± ¡°caring for grandchild is easy if there are support groups,¡± ¡°can not take her eyes off a child. at a moment,¡± ¡°grandchild is vital energy for life,¡± ¡°fading life fasten to grandchild.¡±
Conclusion:The finding of this study will offer profound information on understanding grandmother¡¯s experience who are taking care of her grandchild.
